Illustrated Poem

On the Pulse of Morning is a poem written by Maya Angelou in 1993 for the inauguration of Bill Clinton. Original illustrations and unconventional text setting add to the impact of the poem and relates the words to a new visual language that describes the surreal nature of optimism in hindsight of the poem's initial reading. The illustrations combine photography of ostriches, lunar landscape, watercolor backgrounds, and nature elements. The text is set in Bodoni.
